Anjaan Kurbaniyan: The Freedom Fighter Admired by Mahatma Gandhi | Potti Sriramulu

Potti Sriramulu was a great freedom fighter and revolutionary who also dedicated his life to the upliftment and rights of Dalits. Known for his relentless hunger strikes advocating for his community, his death came after falling into a coma during one such fast.

Deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology of non-violence, Sriramulu worked closely with Gandhi during the Quit India Movement, even sharing imprisonment with him. Gandhi once said,
“If I had eleven more followers like Sriramulu, I could achieve freedom from British rule within a year.”

Known as the Father of Andhra Pradesh, Potti Sriramulu was born on 16 March 1901 in Madras (now Chennai). His sacrifice and contributions paved the way for the formation of linguistic states in India.
